What is the difference between the 95 T-5 R and all the other R's??? Is 95 a good year for the model vs. the others????

I have a 95 T5R. The only difference between the 95 T5R and the R model is:

1. There are only 500 Black and 500 Yellow T5Rs in america. Less now if you count accidents.
2. The T5R has exclusive wheels and seats. Very nice and very hard to find.


I'm pretty sure that the T5R and the R versions have the same engine/transmission with the same specifications. Also, I'm pretty sure that the suspension is the same.

Can't be 100% sure about this.

Apart from the other points mentioned, all of which I agree with, the R has a "productionised" high performance engine with stronger conrods and crank, which was carried through into the S/V70 T5 and R variants.

My handbook mentions the "overboost" feature on my R, but since it's an import from Sweden, the handbook may be for an earlier version.

Certainly I've not noticed any extra wallop even when leaving the car on hard acceleration for well over a minute.

I've also seen a wide range of seat options - mine has two electric front seats, but I've seen T5-Rs with one or none.

R comes in more colours since it was assembled by Volvo and not TWR

ECU Mapping is slightly different

Interior in R is Alcantara facing with Leather trim as opposed to the exact opposite of leather facings with Alcantara trim in T5-R

R has 17" Volans (7 Spoke), T5-R has 17" Titan (5 Spoke)

R has different rear spoiler - larger with grey trailing lip

R has revised suspension settings - softer anti-roll bars but firmer dampers.
R also has a viscous diff

Manual R has newer intercooler and larger turbo (hence additional 10 hp over auto)

Biggest difference AFAIK is that the original T5-R's had a 10 to 15 second 'overboost' which gave about 240hp and then it dropped back to 220hp. The 850R's were 'real' 240hp full-time.

There should also be some trim and color differences (the T5-R was only built in a few colors).
