New to me C70 C70 2007

Did a fly and drive and got to put eight hours behind the wheel yesterday. I like it very much and the family loves it. When I pulled up in the driveway at 9:30 last night they all came out for an around the neighborhood top-down spin. Daughter was in shock and in love with it. Mission accomplished.

The good:

The roof is dead quiet. No rattles, squeaks or any odd behavior going up or down. I averaged 27mpg which wasn't bad as that includes construction zone crawling to the 80+mph run from Little Rock to Memphis. Dynaudio system is fantastic, even top-down. It came with the rain cover, compressor, tire repair kit, jack and even a spare tire!

The bad:

Driver's door latch. Yes, if popped open (half latched) about six times on the the way home. Top up or down, windows up or down. Reading other forums I see that the door latch needs replacing. I need to find the correct one and order it.

Second item is the manual mode in the transmission. It doesn't work. Putting the stick in M has no effect. Trans stays in auto and "D" remains displayed on the dash. The "blind" around the shifter has broken out as they all seem to be on all C70s so I'm hoping that bit's of it have falling into the console and are fouling a microswitch or something like that. Any insight would of course be welcome.

Going to do an in depth inspection and maintenance list this weekend.

Erwin

Nice car! Could I volunteer to be your other 'daughter"?

You are correct on both counts. Broken door latch and shifter/plastic piece jamming the M mode. Fix the door latch first, it is the hardest of the two.

Thank you Klaus. Sorry, two kids and two large dogs is all we can manage! My son, who isn't driving yet, poo-poo'd the idea of this car as it was too "girly." After the night ride with the fantastic stereo and subwoofer thumping out some techno-ambient music, he got out and said "Let me shake your hand." Another Volvo convert!

Good to know I guessed right. I'm searching for the latch on FCP and Tasca. If not there, I'll look to on-line dealers.

Also need another key.

The manual calls for 5w30 but up to 86 degrees F. We're already past that here in Memphis so I'm going up to 5w40.

I have to keep in mind this is my daughter's car. I want to start tinkering with it.
