trying to find out some info.

2007 Volvo xc70

haldex fluid comes up as transmission oil. part number 31367941.

What is it? any technical info on it? anything to cross reference with it?

$30 for a quart is crazy money.

Haldex fluid is NOT transmission fluid. And it does need to be changed every 40-50K miles. Especially the first change at 40K when it is at its dirtiest.

Where is the reservoir on a xc70 2006?
Can I trust Sears to do this with a oil change or am I asking for trouble

I don't even trust Sears to install the correct battery. Haldex has no sump or reservoir. You need a real mechanic for this. Someone with Volvo or Audi experience. Talk with a shop before ordering any fluids.

From Haldex:

This is a Mineral Oil.

and is a 0W-10


From Volvo Dealerships:

This is not in the Maintenance Schedule. They claim it is a lifetime fluid.
I found out that they consider lifetime to be 150k to 200k miles.

They do not service it till that mileage. I also found out that by that mileage many of these Haldex units end up failing. $3800 repair job.


From Haldex:

Service Intervals are to be between 40K to 60K miles on this unit.
The oil filter on the unit should be replaced at that time as well with the fluid.

Actually, "lifetime" for Volvo is 5 years or 100K miles, whichever comes first.

0W10 oil, interesting.
