P0088 Fuel Rail Pressure High V702.5T V70-XC70 2005

My check engine light came on yesterday while driving. To my surprise today when I started it, no codes found. After a few minutes of idling, P0088 Fuel Rail High Pressure exceeded.

I did a search online, and in one post I saw "split oil cooler - only opens on acceleration" or something like that.

Now here is some background. A month ago, I was parked against one of those concrete parking space stops. Instead of reverse, I was in drive. Popped right over and "thump".

I haven't inspected it closer yet, but the obvious question is does this sound like the obvious? I am wondering why an oil cooler issue would affect the fuel pressure, but maybe I should just climb under the car?

I am going to post the fix I came up with for a broken PCV crankcase breather hose, which I am hoping triggered this code. I had a second incidence of this code, plus a second which unfortunately I have forgotten.

Not oil but intercooler. And the IC has nothing to do with fuel pressure. There is however a fuel pressure sensor which could be dirty. Also a fuel filter might help:

"I got it back from the independent mechanic tonight after he'd changed the fuel filter and cleaned out the recently fitted fuel pressure valve." No problems since.

Thanks Klaus. That was a comment I saw online somewhere - and you know, well, it's the internet.

I did look under the car finally, just for piece of mind, to make sure I hadn't cracked something open. Everything looks fine. Reminded me of when I was looking at buying a classic 4WD Toyota Land Rover with knobby tires back the 1980's, and it was sitting against the curb. The owner said "go ahead, go forward", and it popped right over the curb. Never occurred to me my V70 would do the same with ease.

I'll keep an eye on the codes, and think about a filter.

Don
