Bra shield vs bras? S70 1998

Hi,

I posted a message earlier on bras and now decides not to use it as it can potentially collect dirt underneath the bras etc.

I have not used 3M self-adhesive yet but someone told me water can collect underneath as well.

The question is:

Does anyone know if there is a plastic shield available for the 850/V-S 70 series? I see this shield on Honda Odyssey vans etc. Basically mounted to the grill and and prevents road chips while does not collect water or dirt underneath as there is a 1/2 inch-gap between the shiled and the hood.

Thanks in advance for any info.

If installed correctly, there is no way water can get under the 3M adhesive - it's basically a sticker. I have not seen any of the plastic shields that you mention on any S/V70's, nor have I ever seen one in a catalog or online. Let us know if you find one.

The 3M adhesive is probably already on your car. Look at the lip just ahead of the rear wheel wells. See the clear film? No water can get under there if it is properly applied. I have seen several Volvos with the 3M film on the front here in Washington, and it appears to hold up very nicely, even in our wet climate.

I agree with your decision not to use a bra. I had one on a BMW and ended up with a line of abrasion across the hood where the edge of the bra had trapped fine grit.

Perhaps the term "bra" is a misnomer.... most of the guys that strap these ugly pieces of black plastic across the front of their cars are much to anal-retentive to be in the bra wearing catagory. Did I mention I think they are ugly??
