fuel pump control module question V70-XC70 2004

I have just purchased a 2004 v70 2.5t w/114k miles from a private party. The complete 105K miles rune up was done and the car seemed fine. I took the car to a independent garage for a per-purchase inspection they found nothing that would indicate a problem. The car appeared to be a good buy. The car ran strong everything worked. They did check for codes. I trusted the previous owner, so I purchased the car. I parked in the garage for 30 days while we were out of town. Once back in town we filled the car with gas and the next day it started to stumble upon acceleration and would occasionally stall completely. After a day of this I took the car back to the garage where the per-purchase inspection was done and asked them to investigate. They said failed fuel pump control module. Parts and labor came to just under $1000.

That is more money than I am willing to pay. I believe that the troubleshooting that they did to located the problem was good. Is replacing this module simple enough. I have been working 240's for 20 years but am new to the front wheel drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

I wonder how they're so certain. Were there codes pointing to the module?
Are there codes now?

There's lots of things that can cause that problem... some simple,
clogged fuel filter, vacuum leak etc., Maybe the car sat too long and
needs a ride on an interstate.

I'd go for another opinion.

Bill

I have been collecting these for some time now and have a few..
if your local to D.C. I can give you one..1000 sounds ridiculous.. i mean bordering on criminal. its a simple box with like 2 capacitors and some ic chips..
if your not i can even ship one out to you at cost of shipping it.

again this is for the fuel pump module on an XC70 located in the spare wheel area on the passenger side (LH)

there is no coding or anything needed. its held on by velcro

Jim I will take you up on that offer, thanks. What I want to do now is to see the part on my car. From what you passed on and what I have read the module is located under the fender liner on of the passenger side rear tire. Or, is has been relocated which is what the shop stated. How should I get cost of shipping to you.

Thanks

My zip code is 98370. I live across the sound from Seattle. Currently raining and can't get a good look at the car. I am fairly sure that we are talking about the same part I am new to front wheel drive volvo.

Thanks

Dale
