Strange door auto locking issue - figured out - not fixed 850 1997

Hi,

1997 850 T5 Sedan.

For those that read and responded to my previous post about this issue, here is what I discovered.

Today, I unlocked the car door with the key fob. Sat down, kept the driver's side door open, and after about 30 seconds all the doors locked. I then unlocked the door with the key fob, sat and waited, and again in about 30 seconds all the doors locked. If I unlock all the doors (two presses of the key fob), it takes about 2 minutes then all the doors lock.

What I noticed is, if I open the passenger side door, then the locks never auto lock. Because most likely it knows someone has entered the car. But, for some reason it doesn't recognize the fact that the driver's side door has been opened.

The other issue with the driver's side door is that the dome lights don't come on when it's opened. So, there must be a sensor in the door that is malfunctioning? What is this sensor called? Located? Easy to replace?

Someone mentioned in a previous post someting about a "central locking relay". I'm assuming the door sensor some how works with the central locking relay? Could the central locking relay be the issue, would it sense the door is opened or not, and turn on the dome lights?

Anyway, if there is a sensor in the door, let me know what I need to do to fix it. This is very annoying issue, and I want to fix it as soon as I can. I did order a used central locking relay, so I can replace that if neccessary also.

Thank you all for your help!

M

start with what is easy to check I guess. The locking relay is #11 (see above link) under the fuses. this part is available on ebay for 23.00. If thats ok, then it's time to start looking for the door sensors....

      Hi,

Thank you for the link. I actually recently purchased a Central locking Relay on Ebay. :)

Now I got to figure out how to get to the section of the locking relay. It looks like from the diagram that the Central Locking Relay is on the underside of the Central Electrical Unit. I haven't looked too closely, but does the top fuse area come off (hopefully easily) exposing the other relays underneath?

      Thanks again.

      M
