Need DIY reference and opinion... V70-XC70

Hello

I have a v70 2006 2.5T AWD at 210000 km and I need to do the following on the car:

- breather box and upper hose replacement
- radiator replacement
- front left ball joint replacement
- rear left wheel bearing replacement

First, is it reasonable to think that this is all DIY jobs ? As a reference, I've did a lot on that car all by myself.

And second, do you guys can refer me to some DIY post or vids for those jobs ?

And third, where is the best place to order parts in Canada or even US for this ?

Let me know, help greatly appreciated.

Canadian prices for parts are outrageous. For OEM, I usually go with http://www.tascaparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=213668

Or find oem at http://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/ Stay away from the cheap parts.

There are other US parts suppliers that offer OE parts. The problem is shipping to CA and customs (tax). If you had a mail drop in northern Vermont...

The PCV system breather box is behind the intake manifold. Removing the engine fan will give you plenty of room to do that yourself. The fan is held in place by a couple of screws.

Get on youtube.com and search for Volvo maintenance to get ideas on how to do things. The rear wheel bearing is much harder than the front wheel bearing, if it is AWD.

I like original volvo parts. Borton or Tasca. I might go OEM or aftermarket, best quality like Nissens or Blackhawk, for the radiator.

For DIY guides, check www.volvoxc.com. Someone went to a lot if trouble and they deserve our gratitude.

The radiator, ball joint and wheel bearing are not bad. Especially with a lift and air tools. Everything is doable with hand tools. You need a good amount of ground clearance to drop the radiator.

Thank you, I will do the bearing and the ball joint for sure. The radiator and breathing box, I will leave to my Volvo mechanics... There is a lot to remove to replace the breather box, including the radiator...

      Thanks !

I did the breather box on both an 05 S80 turbo and an 03 V70 non-turbo and neither time did the radiator have to come out. I would have to think your car is the same. I just throw that out there in case you still want to do the radiator yourself - you can price it with your mechanic and decide.

Either way, if you can handle the wheel bearing and ball joint yourself then you've saved yourself a good chuck of change.

I never did the breather box, but it seems that while you're changing the radiator that would be the time to do it. Chris?
