2005 S40 with Bad Crankshaft S40-V40 2005

I have a 2005 S40 with a 2.4L NA that has a bad crankshaft and connecting rod. I would like to find a crankshaft and con rod to repair the motor, and am wondering what other variations of this motor would have the same crankshaft and con rod. Also, if there were a short block/long block of this motor available, would be interested. Car is located in the Huntsville, AL area. Thanks,

Phantom

Yes, was planning on doing the work myself. Long blocks seem to run about $1800 minimum, and that is more than I would like to have to spend. Could do it cheaper if I could find a used crank and con rod. The motor is good otherwise.

    Thanks for the help.

Shop around for a used engine. In your case, any S40 that has been totaled in an accident will work. Erievovo is a good place to compare prices.

It sounds as though are going to tackle the work yourself. You might find that a low mileage used engine may be the least expensive option and less work than tearing your engine down. By the time you try to swap in a a new crank and rod and purchase all the misc stuff like gaskets and seals etc. it can get expensive.....

I agree, go with a used engine. These engine are normally quite bullet proof, unless they are run without oil...

There are engine rebuilder shops all over the country .... S40-V40 2005

There are businesses that rebuild engines and sell them as short blocks all over the country -- do an internet search. They often offer decent warranties, too.

About 10 years ago, I had a 1984 (grey-market) Mercedes-Benz GWagen 280 GE LWB (a.k.a., Gelaendewagen) that burned a valve -- see below. That M110 straight-six engine was so complicated (a twin-overhead cam) to remove the head (viz., labor) that it was cheaper to ship a short-block from a reputable rebuilder and swap it -- and I was able to get the same basic engine but for a different car model that was designed for 40 additional horsepower (higher compression and different camshaft), so my GWagen afterward could fly (relatively speaking, of course :-).

Anyway, you should be able to find a short block for your ubiquitous engine a lot easier than for my "exotic".

    Good luck.
