Vibration Problem - Suggestions? 850 93

Gents,

I am on the road today and about 100 miles from home, I started noticing a small vibration in the steering wheel at higher speds (55-65mph). It started all of a sudden and hasn't stopped. My initial thought was a tire out of balance but why would that occur all of a sudden? What else could cause this? The car only has 51,000 miles on it. I'm 250 miles from home and need to drive back home on wednesday. Does anyone know of a serious problem that may have caused this and would prevent me from diving the 250 miles home on wednesday?

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Larry

As stated in the first reply you may have thrown a wheel weight or worse you may have a separated tire. If it is vibrating in the wheel then most likely I would check the front tires, vibration from the rear is usually felt in the seat. Hope this helps...I worked in the tire business for a spell.

Larry, one idea for why it would have started all of a sudden is that one of your tire weights fell off. This could possibly happen without too much trauma to the tire/rim. If you did hit a big pothole/bump this could throw your tires balance off, or crack your rim.
