Bulb blowout 850 95

I recently replaced 2 of the 4 bulbs in the "temperature adjustment pod" (for lack of my knowing what to call it) on my 95 850. After replacing those bulbs, the remaining 2 blew. I also replaced the bulb in my TRACS switch. The other 3 switch lights blew. Anyone have any suggestions?

Dealer replaced the bulb when my car was new. I set the brightness to about 50%/60% and so far so good for 4 years.

    Erik,

An old trick is to dim the instrument/switch bulbs. You only have to dim them from 100% to say 98% to add to the life of the bulbs. I have done this on my 850 and can't remember the last time I replaced a bulb. This was in response to what seemed to be an endless chore of replacing bulbs when I first purchased the car...that was years ago.

      What's up with the super-bright dash? 850 95

100% brightness on the dash is WAY too bright for me anyway, so I always turn that down a bit on all the cars I drive. Seems people like to be "entertained" by the dash because the backlighting is usually all the way up on cars I borrow (or maybe they just never adjusted it since they got the car from the dealer where it is usually set all the way up). Some makes (like GM cars at the rental places) have very loud displays in the dash and that just drives me nuts no matter how much I dim them. I performed an experiment and dimmed my S70's dash lights all the way down. Driving through even the brightest city streets, the dash was sufficiently lit after I got used to it. If I matched the brightness of the dash (in my peripheral field of vision) to the brightness of what I was looking at through the windshield on the brightly lit city streets I still was no where close to the 100%. So, try adjusting the brightness of your dash backlighting such that you can easily see it with your peripheral vision, but so it doesn't draw more attention than the road and you will see that you are no where close to full brightness on that thing. Save yourself some bulbs and time (to replace them) and have a more comfortable driving environment.

      Cheers.

Turn the dimmer down so the dash lights are at like 70% brightness, and the bulbs will last much longer.
