Battery warning light on everything else off 850 1994

Hi from New Zealand

Took the car for a short drive and when I turned the motor off I found the battery warning light lit up. It will now only go out when the car is running. Does the battery need charging fully or is it at fault at all. Any suggestions would be most apreciated.

Malcolm,

I have never had the problem but I'm guessing that it makes sense that it would come on with the engine off, indicating that the battery is not holding a charge. The fact that the lamp goes off confirms it. Why not look in your owners manual which explains all the warning lamps. If you haven't replaced the battery in three to four years then it's time...

My guess, and it is only that, is that the alternator may have a bad diode.
