Possible Fix for "TRACS' and 'ABS' light problem 850 1996

Hello All,

I hope I am giving something back to all who have helped me in the past. I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon. Several years ago the "TRACS" and "ABS" lights came on. I sent the ABS unit to to Victor Rocha out in Rowlands Heights, CA to fix. I got the unit back and installed it. For 4 years I had absolutely no problems and suddenly "TRACS" and "ABS" lights came back on. I contacted Victor and he said the problem may be due to dirty ABS sensors in the individual wheels. The problem was the "TRACS" and "ABS" lights would come on once a year, and as soon as I turned off the engine, the lights cleared. Also the lights would come on spontaneously without me even applying the brakes. I could never get the car to my independent mechanic with the lights on so he could hook up a scanner. About a week ago, I was finally able to bring my car in with the "TRACS" and "ABS" lights on so a scanner could be hooked up. My mechanic confirmed the problem was not with the ABS unit, but instead a defective Brake Pressure Switch (EBD Pressure Sensor) - Part # 9173210.

So at last the problem is fixed. I hope this information is helpful to others. Thank you all for helping me in the past when I posted questions.

Hugh

Argh.
We were dealing with an intermittent ABS/TRACS light for 2 years.
Found the following...

It did the fix on ours.
Too bad it was too late for yours.

Al,

Thank you. I don't know if I would have had the skills to make the repair to the switch as indicated. Still thanks to you I am "armed" with the knowledge to make this repair if the brake pressure fails again.

Possible Fix for "TRACS' and 'ABS' light problem 850 1996

My 1995 854T got the ABS/TRKS error after my daughter drove it through water on a skid pad. So much water was sprayed on the brake switch at the vacuum cannister that it shorted out. Also shorted out was the plug at the ABS pump. The good thing with the 95 was the OBD ports on the fender allowing me to get the codes...

Dealer wanted $2000 to replace the ABS pump, but a few days later, after drying out, the ABS errors went away on their own. A little silicone putty to water proof the system and I was happy again.
