re: 98 S70 auto - front grill S70 1998

Hi all,

My friend's front grill is keep falling out or someone is keep stealing it. We can't figure it out. Is this one of the common problem for S70? Thank you.

Car location: White Marsh, Maryland

Not a common problem. Stealing it is quite difficult as access is from behind a raised hood. There are 6-7 sliding tabs that hold the grill in place, these are needed.

Falling out while driving? Well, it would be held against the condenser as it cannot fall forward. It cannot fall straight down because there is no gap to reach the ground.

I suspect your buddy is pulling your leg.

      Hi Klaus,

That's great to know, so there is no thief... I will install it this time around. Thank you as always.

I take that back, it can fall forward. But only if the clips fall out. My 850 has the same clips as the 98, and after sliding them on I put the long end downward.

A junkyard is the place to get clips, a dealer wants like $3 each.

Many years ago, it was recommended that one should practice removing the grill clips from your 850 from the outside (with the hood open) in case your hood cable broke.

I was able to do this, and positioned the clips all in one direction to make the job easier. As I remember, it was not too hard to learn to remove the clips from the outside.

If possible, you might add zip ties to the open end of the clips or epoxy them so that they are not easy to remove.
