I just bought a 2003 V-70 from an auction and pieced together the front end damage from a donor S-60. The car's key works in the ignition but does not fit into the key slot on the driver's door. Does this particular vehicle come with a door key independent of the ignition key?

    I don't know in this case, but some cars have valet keys where, IIRC, the valet can start the car and drive it, but be unable to open trunk, glove box, etc. which hotel or event valet has no need to access. Just a thought!

    Does it fit the pass side door? how about the glove box?
    If its just the drivers door, then chances are the door was changed and you can order a new lock cylinder from Volvo for the door that is keyed to the car... it wont be cheap.

    Check your key with the glove box and rear hatch, if it fits there then the door was replaced and the lock never updated.
    Considering that this is a salvage car, I expect that the ignition lock came from a donor car if the key doesn't fit the glove box.

    Or, it could be that the door lock is jammed with rust. It can be removed and brought to a locksmith to match your key or repaired.

    There is only one key per Volvo.

      By the way, getting an extra key made costs an arm and a leg. See your local dealer for costs, 1 key and 2 remotes = about $350+

    Never had a car with two different keys..... unless a lock was changed
    Both are 2003 and 2004 V-70's use one key
