Blower Motor getting weak S70 1998

Brick Fans,
My 1998 S70 blower motor is finally crapping out, it would appear. When set at any speed (I have the slider bar speed control), the motor slows down, speeds up, slows down, even stops completely sometimes. When I smack the dashboard with my hand, this will generally get it started again, at least for a little while.
I've read over the AWD posts for "Blower Motor" ... appears my motor brushes are worn out. I want the motor with cage unit, as I'm not interested in attempting to repair the brushes. Looks like FCP has it.

What I need is a detailed procedure for this repair (photos coveted). One of the posts here referenced a Bay 13 article for 850 dash repair, but I can't seem to find this. Thanks for any guidance.

It's not rocket science. You will need to remove a bunch of T25 screws...

Start by opening the glove box and removing the screws facing you. You need to remove the glove box before you can remove the 3 screws that hold on the lower kick plate.

Depending on how much you like contortions, you might want to remove the metal knee bolster - disregard the yellow label. Once that is out of the way, the blower is right in front of you.

The wires clipped to the outside of the blower are removed by sliding the clips, the one at 11:00 slides upward IIRC.

Then take out the screws on the blower and replace it.

As Klaus indicated, this is a reasonably simple job.

I was able to remove one of the two bolts on left side (facing dash) of the bolster (yellow airbag label on it), so I pushed the right side down to gain some access. The main problem I encountered was the black Z-shaped bracket on right side (which the bolster attaches to) ... it's very difficult to access the hex mounting bolts which hold this bracket on, so I left it in place. This made it somewhat difficult to remove the motor & wheel. I was then concerned that the wheel of the new unit might get bent upon installation because of this limited clearance, and thereby throw the wheel out of balance. All is well, however. Finally, heat again!

      Thanks again Klaus.

Nice, much easier than I imagined!

Great tips and YouTube link. Even better than photos!

      Many Thanks Klaus!
