Our beloved 1993 850 GLT, purchased new in August 1993, has been donated to a technical high school. It was closing in on 175,000 miles and needed two repairs beyond my ability - steering rack (worn seals leaking p/s fluid) and crankcase ventilation system overhaul (oil leaking out the filler cap due to pressure build-up).
Rather than bore you with everything replaced at least once, here are a few of the major original parts :
- Automatic transmission, still leak-free and shifting smoothly
- Exhaust system
- Starter motor
- Fuel pump
- Power steering pump (and rack, duh)
The car was a life-saver, literally, protecting my toddler-son 17 years ago from a massive side-impact collision by a car that ran a stop sign.
Alas, it was time to say goodbye and let younger hands take over, either fixing it for resale or parting it out, having the profits go back to the school.
To all the members of BrickBoard, thank you!! You were a font of knowledge and insights that made it possible to keep the car as long as we did.
Best wishes to everyone.
