99 v70 xc no start V70-XC70

The person up the street has a v70 xc today it would not start and for the last week it has been minus 10 cel. for the high I went up to have a look and asked him to turn it over and right away I saw the upper inter cooler hose being sucked closed, I removed the hose and the car started where could there be a blockage the air cleaner is fine no nests or blockage there anybody have any ideas ,thanks

    Two things. If you are refering to the IC hose at the top of the radiator.

    There could be water at the bottom part of the IC itself. If so, removing the bottom hose at the intercooler and draining it will be very helpful. It only needs to be 80% or more clogged.

    The hose itself could have become too weak by repeated flexing and needs to be replaced, unlikely but still a possibility.

      that is what I thought but I could not imagine how the water would get in there is it just condensation thanks Klaus

        Condensation. You live in a very damp marine climate, and short trips with out 'using' the turbo will make things worse. The water will have some oil mixed in with it, but that is normal turbo blowby.

        The alternative is to reverse the flow to the inter cooler, a bit of a task.

        Condensation. You live in a very damp marine climate, and short trips with out 'using' the turbo will make things worse. The water will have some oil mixed in with it, but that is normal turbo blowby.
