driving home from DC to new jersey in wifey's 2001 V70 with 151k miles on the clock we hit the first traffic light in Delaware, (rt 1/13 and red lion rd.)(we avoid 95) after going ~80 mph trying to avoid a maniacal Motor-home towing a car. Car dies, dead. oh crap. bad scene. in the highway waving off cars coming over the rise. Car is locked in gear. Young couple stops to help. (wow what a GREAT gesture) Ignition ON. shift to neutral. PUSH!. OK Cool. Contact Local (to my home) tow service. 3 hours, $625 and 85 miles later we're home and the car is at our mechanics.
Mechanic checks out car, bla bla bla. Turns out Timing belt jumped, not broken. Exhaust cam is out 180 Degrees! Holy Crap!. Ok i tell him. Reset timing and try to re-start. To our surprise, is starts! cool, no damage. $800 more and a new belt the car is back on the road.
TL:DR. Timing belt jumped 180 degrees. Valves survive!
How often does this happen? I was pretty sure i had a new timing belt fitted @ ~ 110,000 miles. need to check my records.
