Transmission hard shift issue V70-XC70

Hey, I'm looking at a 2005 XC70 w 114k mi that is for sale.
It seems to shift fine when cold and then once it's warmed up it shifts much harder. Somebody told them its a 'valve body'.

Is this symptom anything that anyone has seen before?

Can/does the valve body need attention only or is it just these software updates I have read about?

Or I guess I'm worried that too many of these transmissions never get any service and eventually hand grenade.

If this were your car and the clunking just started, I would suggest getting the software updated, flushing the ATF, and checking the B2 solenoid. But, you do not know how long this has been happening and the longer the hard shift is left to fester, the worse it will get.

    Pass this one up.

Thanks. Is the B2 solenoid something internal or can it be addressed without removing the trans?

I would be inclined to pass it but it is CHEAP, because of this the issue.

        Sorry, B4 solenoid:

It's a crap shoot. If this is what's wrong and it hasn't gone on for long, it is a cheap fix. Remember, flushing with 3309 ATF is not cheap. Toyota sells the fluid.
