Gasoline Smell 850 1993

I notice a strong gasoline smell when the gas tank is full or almost full and the car is parked in my garage. I had the repair shop check it, they looked for a leak and found nothing. I have seen other postings about other models where a "breather tube" was flattened. Could I be having a similar problem with the 850? What should I look for to diagnose the problem?

    I noticed gas fumes for several weeks. I had a couple of mechanics check it out to no resolve. Finally another mechanic simply unscrewed my gas cap and pushed down the gasket on the cap. Problem solved! However, I felt a bit embarrassed it was such a simple fix.

    The breather tube usually vents fumes to a charcoal canister and if the tube is blocked, some fumes might accumulate and leak out of the fuel tank gasket, I dont know if Volvo does it that way too. You need to find another shop that can diagnose this problem ASAP. Gas is nothing to ignore, nor is it fun to work around. Safety first.

    Check out your pressure regulator line... this line was crack on mine 3 month back and smell gas very strong...

    I replace the tube no more leak the smell went away...

    This line is difficult to see just by tracing is backward from the fuel inject rail you will fine it...

      I have had the gas odor problem intermiteently for several years. Dealer has never been very interested in trying to fix it. A mechanic fixed it recently by replacing a 3 inch tube on the fuel recovery line.
