ABS Module going bad? S70

Hi Everyone,
I have been to the dealer a few times already and now something new happened today. I was driving along and suddenly the trip meter and odometer went blank, then i saw two lights go on: Brake and ABS. After a few minutes it went away.

I thought i read somewhere in the past on this site that the ABS module goes bad and there is a guy who repairs those units?

Thoughts? I feel like my car is starting to fall apart....

Are you sure it is not the ABS light lit at the same time as the STC (traction control) light. I just went through that with my car. The brake light should not come on as other have stated. If your ABS module is bad they can be tested and rebuilt. I just had mine rebuilt and it was more cost effective than going to the dealer or trying to buy a rebuilt unit myself.

    Mine was rebuilt here:http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Volvo_Parts/Volvo_V70_ABS.htm

I believe this is a widely known resource on brick board as others have posted. Victor will test the unit before repair so you'll know for sure if there are issues with it.

The Brake light should never come on. Did you check the brake fluid level?

Yes, i checked the brake fluid. It was topped out. Also i have to say i asked the dealer to flush it. They did a good job. It was done only a few weeks ago. No leaks. Perfect flush from the dealer.

If the odo and trip meter came back on when the ABS/TRKS lights went off, I would also suspect that the ABS module is acting up. Reason, the speedometer signal goes through the ABS module.

No hurry. I would wait until the ABS lights up again, long enough to get to an autoparts store and read the codes.

If the codes point to the ABS, contact Vic:

You can still drive the car with the ABS module removed, just no speedometer.

      Hi Everyone,
I did manage to change the ABS module out. I waited a few weeks to confirm the fix. The ABS light and brake light no longer come on. Thanks to everyone here the problem is now fixed!

      Thank you!

If your ABS is going common problem. My son picked up a trick on another forum. Need to wedge a piece of cardboard between the ABS black module and pump above it.

If the problem is just occurring it works, If it has been doing it for a while. need a rebuild.

We have done it to four cars and it does work.

      Madness

Yes, thats it, i saw --- where the odometer and trip meter displays information and i saw the brake and ABS light go on.

I dont have a code reader but was looking at autozone and amazon. What do you think about this one: Actron CP9125 PocketScan Code Reader ?

I would like a code reader i can use on my volvo and my wife's Lexus

A 'cheap' scanner is just that. When in Amazon, look at the reviews - not the very old ones, but the ones on the last couple of pages. You get what you pay for...

I will not recommend a scanner, there are too many out there and the prices are all over the place. Just watch out for very old, back shelf items.

Autozone will read the codes for free, they no longer reset the systems.

          Hi Klaus,
Ok, i went to autozone since i go there normally now that i found one near my house. You were right. I could use the scanner. I didnt find any codes about the ABS? Not sure why but it did display --- and show the Brake and ABS light.

I think there is still a problem but cant figure out why no codes?
