850 wagon tailgate lock 850

Have a cranky tailgate lock. The arm stays stuck in the up position. I lubed months ago with WD-40 and that worked - temporarily. The WD-40 isn't working this time. Any suggestions? Should I remove it, clean it and apply some sort of lock ease? Or is it time for a boneyard replacement?

Thanks for any help!

WD-40 is a cleaner, not intended to lube anything for long. The fish oil dries up. Use white lithium grease for your car and leave the WD-40 on the shelf.

Remove the rear panel, carefully because of the plastic clips in the bottom part. Then spray some white grease on the moving parts, and gently pull up on the lock pin until you can lock/unlock freely.

You also want to use the grease on the latch portion at the bottom of the assembly.

Don't forget to also grease the door stays on the 4 doors, the hood hinges, etc.

      Thanks Klaus!

I do use white lithium grease on all the locks, I was using the WD to free it up. Guess the next step is to remove the panel and follow your advice...:)
