Keyless Remote Programming V70-XC70

I am sure this subject has been beat to death, after searching and reading through lots of posts on the subject, but I would like to know the true facts. I have a remote that is not working. I took it to the dealer to see about testing and programming, I was informed that I would need the 18 digit code, which I do not have and no sticker inside the car. Now I read on ebay a guy say that dealers can access the Vin number to find codes. He says they are lying if they can't. (for used remotes he is selling). I would assume that the code for the "key" may be in the Vin, but the remote? I need to know the true facts about remote programming for a 2002 Volvo XC70. Thanks!

    Keyless Remote Programming V70-XC70

Hi. I am a current dealer employee. The PIN # required for programming the remote for your car is ONLY recorded on a label on the package it was shipped in. If the remote WAS programmed to your car, it should not need to be reprogramed. The dealer should be able to hook your car to VIDA and check the remote signal. They also have a portable device that tests for a signal from any remote. There is NOT a database that stores remote PIN numbers for Volvo P1, P2, or P3 cars, period. Used remotes are completely useless UNLESS you have the label from the original package.

Yep. I made the mistake of purchasing a replacement fob on ebay. The seller claims that the dealers are lying if they say they can't program the remote to the car. One of the local dealers actually tried to reprogram it for me, and the equipment did not recognize the remote. They really did try to retrieve this pin number for me, but it was no go. I appreciate their trying, and so far have not been able to get a refund from the ebay seller. Buyer Beware.
