Left Front Hammering Noise on Braking After Sitting For One Week V70-XC70 1998

My 1998 V70 (FWD, auto, 180,000 miles) sat for a week while I was on vacation. When I drove it again, on braking there was a loud hammering that you could hear and feel through the brake pedal. It was coming from the left front. It diminished over the next hour or so as I drove around town, and then disappeared completely. It has not returned.

I thought that perhaps some brake pad material had stuck to the disc (I live in humid Florida) but that did not seem to be the case. I also wondered if the CV joint could have come ungreased somehow. (AFAIK these are the original CV joints and drive shafts). Anybody have any ideas?

This is not unusual at all. The ambient humidity rusted the brake rotors in the area that was not in contact with the brake pad during your vacation.

Driving the car wore off this insignificant amount of rust as the brake pads rubbed against the rotors.

CV joints will not become "ungreased" by sitting for a week or a month or a year.
