Please recommend best year and model for used s80 S80

It was suggested by my mechanic friend that the s80 between 2004-2006 with 2.5T, including AWD, is a seriously under-rated great value as a used car. He said it might be one of the best volvo values ever.

He said stay away from earlier years, especially viscous AWD, and avoid the T6 motor.

I have a 2004 na v70 and had good success.

Agree with Chris. 2.5. AWD is nice if needed only.

When we bought our (used) 2005 2.5T S80, my local Volvo indy mechanic gave me the EXACT same advice.

I'd go a bit further and say, if you don't need AWD, why get it - but maybe you do a lot of slipper winter driving.

Also, if I had my druthers, there wouldn't be single turbo in the household. But if you want an S80, I don't think it can be avoided. You CAN, however, find some S60 NA's, and even some with manual trans if you wish. But you may need the larger rear seat room of the S80.

Bought a beautiful 04 AWD with 106k miles with records and full dealer maintenance. Mechanic, friend for 20+ years says, "you better buy that car" about three times. Paid too much, maybe.

Remember you from the 960 rwd days. Am also looking at 04-05 s80 2.5T, with about 100K. Don't need the awd but...
The other car is an 05 S40 T5 with 90K for about the same money. MPG figures 20 vs 22, 28 vs 30. My kids are grown but the back seat is enticing.
How's yours running? Any thoughts on the comparison between the 2?
