turn signal failure V70-XC70 2000

My V70, after 18 months and 13,000 miles, has lost LF turn signal function, at first intermittently, so I'm thinking this may not be a simple bulb failure but perhaps a socket corrosion problem. I think much has been written here on this but I confess I didn't pay much attention because it didn't affect me, until now!:) So could someone please help me out here - do I just get the bulb replaced, or is there some preventative fix indicated first? TIA

BTW, for the record, this car, an AWD R, has been virtually problem free and a joy to drive.

    Victor-

This is a far-too-common problem with '98-'00 S/V/C 70's. The bulb to socket connection burns at the point of contact and creates a high resistance. The correct way to fix the problem is to replace the bulb and socket and (IMO) use a little di-electric grease on the bulb base. Volvo is about to release a campaign that replaces the blade-base bulb and socket with the 'old' style round base bulb. The current bulb socket is discontinued so until you get the letter from Volvo, all you can do is replace the bulb and hope the toasted socket works until the real fix is available.

      Dave,

Many thanks - just the info I was looking for!

If neither TS flashes and nor does the hazards, you need a new hazard switch (combo relay). If you have a add-on wood dash (not OEM), it's also possible that it catches on the wood and needs some sanding to avoid catching on it and burning the relay out.

Thanks for the quick feedback, but everything works fine except for the left TS, which exhibits a rapid flash on all left side bulbs and on the dash indicator, and the main front TS bulb is out. This had happened a few days ago, then worked fine until acting up again today.

I had mine fixed at the dealer on a recall basis. They were aware of the coming recall, and did it without question when I found (here) that there was a recall in the works.

This was over 3 weeks ago...

Mine's an "R", too. My RIGHT TS went, though, not the left :-)

        Recall 101 V70-XC70 2000

Go to your dealer and they'll upgrade it, called Recall 101. It's not suppose to be done yet with '00 cars BUT Volvo no longer supplies the older type bulb/sockets either (can't get them if they wanted to, discontinued) so the dealers have no choice but to use the new recall parts.
