Time and temp light has gone out 850 1997

The light that illuminates the time and ambient temp on the dash has gone out. Is this simply a fuse issue or something more complex? I didn't realize how much I refer to this read out (at night) now that it is gone. Hmmmm...isn't that the line from a Joni Mitchell song, "you don't realize what you've got 'till its gone"

Very common on Volvos. My temp bulb burned out on my 96 2 years ago . The new bulb is still working. The shift indicator bulbs also tend to burn out. doesn't make any sense that the bulbs burn out. I have never had a bulb burn out on any car that I have owned in 20 years, except the Volvo.

More than likely you have a burned out bulb. The bulb is not too difficult to replace, maybe an hour or so. The bulb is somewhat special so get it from the Volvo dealer to avoid the rage that goes along with tearing apart your car to find that the autopart store gave you the worng bulb! (experience here, it bites!) For detailed instructions on how to replace the bulb, go to www.volvospeed.com and navigate to the maintenance section. Look under the dash light replacement. Great site, many pictures to help along the way. BTW, do all of the bulbs at the same time as they will be burning out soon anyhow.

    Good luck

    Prospero
