My old OBD scanner screws up 2005 V70

I just bought a used 2005 V70. I did not have any problems or Check Engline light on.
I plugged my OBD scanner, which I bought 4 years ago and used happily on my 2001 V70, and go a lot of odd problems: trip mileage disappeared, BRAKE FAILURE came up, and the transmission display (where the letter is displayed) showed only a dash (-). The scanner itself showed "Link error'.

The BRAKE FAILURE cleared after a few engine starts, then 'TRANSMISSION SERVICE required" came, shifting was rough, and then it also cleared. So the car is back to normal, but now I have a 'Check engine" light (which I can't clear).

Anybody knows what changed for 2005 from 2001? The scanner is CAN compliant, it is a cheap off-brand model, but it worked well on 2001 V70.

Thank you!

Yuri

Every electrical thing changed. You unknown brand of scanner should not have sent any signals to the car. Time for a new scanner? Try reading the codes by using a borrowed scanner from an autoparts store.
