hollow "ping-ing" noise? S70 1998

I just purchased a 1998 s70 with 37,000 miles. I have noticed when I come to a complete stop, I hear a hollow pinging noise on the drivers side of the car. I think it is coming from the front and my passangers think it's from the back.

Of course when I rode with my dealer this morning the car did NOT make the sound. Has anyone else experienced this???

    Julia:

    I posted a similar message two days ago (see "Popping Noise") I have the exact same noise. It is definitely coming from the left-hand side of the car. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet, but I fear the same thing will happen, i.e., it won't make the sound for the dealer! The noise definitely happens after the car is warm and especially after highway driving. I will ask around to see if anyone has a possible explanation. In the meantime, if you hear anything, please post it here. Thanks!

      That may be the seat popping noise. It is on the power seats.

      The solution is known to be installing new seat rails under warranty.

      If you sit in the seat it rocks back and forth a trifle and goes: klunk, klunk. Mine is a spring, '98 manufactured model so is fairly late, but it still had the problem. On the road, accelerating from a stop caused the klunk, and letting off the throttle caused the other klunk. This is a well known problem with the '98 power drivers seat.

      Rich, with no more noises from the seat, but it took a year to convince the dealer.

        Thanks very much for your suggestion. However, I have a base model S70 without power seats and the seats seem to be fine. I guess it's back to square one! Thanks again.

        Do you know the number for the techincal service bulletin.

        My car has started making the same "klunking" noise on acceleration and braking recently.
