Well, this is a new one. I folded the seat back down to move some stuff and upon attempting to fold it up, apparently the middle belt is stuck in grip mode and will not allow the seat back to move. This is not good. Have any suggestions (other than trying to find a snake with a 17mm socket to loosen the attaching bolt?

    Until you fix the button, just pull some of the middle belt out and wrap it around the headrest before folding the seat.

    I took a couple of 1/2 inch thick buttons and sewed them in place of the plastic button - works fine.

      Lesson learned long ago:

      While you can replace the plastic rivet with almost anything to prevent the belt from being taken up too far by the take-up reel, whatever you install must also be able to pass through the channel in the buckle. This channel is not so big, and this limits what you can place in the belt.

      After buying a replacement plastic rivet, I learned that it is difficult to melt the end of the rivet to secure the two pieces together. In the end, I used a small brass nut and bolt. I still had to peen the bolt end down a tad to make it small enough to pass through the buckle.

      Maybe I was not clear in the original post, but my seat is stuck *down* and I can't get at the buckle to remove the plastic piece. Any idea how I gain access to this middle belt with the seat down?

      Does that plastic panel on the back side of the seat (in the middle) have anything to do with the belt?

        The plastic panel on the upper part of the rear seat is for the latch if there is a third row installed.

        You cannot fold forward the smaller side seat to gain access to the bolts?

        If you fold the smaller seat cushion forward, you should be able to get a wrench on the seatbelt tether bolt.
