Volvo Service for life? FREE

How many of us have taken the car to Volvo and are told that it will cost $100+ to get a code read? Do you know that this is now supposed to be a free service??? Parts are also now warranted for 2 years.

Just read the following from Volvo's website:

WE'VE TAKEN OUR SERVICE EXPERIENCE TO A NEW LEVEL
Your authorized Volvo dealer is focused on providing you with the very best in service. We call it Volvo Service for Life, and it includes a lot more than you would expect from a service shop.

Volvo Service for Life includes: Two-year Parts Warranty: Including the labor when they're installed at an authorized Volvo dealer.
Complimentary Software Updates during a scheduled maintenance visit.*
Complimentary Vehicle Diagnostics if your Volvo has a "check engine" lamp or other warning indicator illuminated: Up to an hour of computer diagnostics.
Special discounted On Call® Advantage Roadside Assistance pricing.**

As you would expect, your Volvo will be taken care of in the best possible way, by expertly trained Volvo technicians who have the most current factory training, and use superior Volvo methods and Volvo Genuine Parts. But that’s not all.

Addendum to code checking

Nowhere does it say the dealer will CLEAR a code. If I were a dealer, I wouldn't. Just for liability.

You want me to clear an SRS or ABS code without checking out the component responsible for the error? No way.

But, it would be nice to know which part of the ABS/SRS/HVAC that is producing the code. The Volvo specific codes will tell you if the EGR solenoid is failing or it is just clogged. Is it the cabin blower or the rheostat? Is the ABS module dying or is it a sensor? The current generic Pnnnn codes do not tell us that.

Good luck!

Klaus
