How to locate current draw 850

Today I was troubleshooting Dan's 1995 850 NA wagon that's battery is discharging way to fast.

We started with pulling each fuse with an ammeter in series with the Neg battery terminal. Here's the results:

With all fuses in: 48ma draw
remove F6 43ma
remove F13 44ma
remove F15 43ma
remove F6 AND F15 25ma !!
remove F6 AND F13 46ma
F6= Central Locking
F13= Hazards/headlight flasher
F15 Courtesy lamps,glove box,remote keyless entry,door warning lamps,
OBD socket

None of the other fuses being removed lowered the current flow.
Then I pulled the relays by the main fuse block- no change in current

Then I checked OBD codes:
A3 (ABS) 142 (Stop lamp switch faulty) 141 Pedal Signal Faulty, Shorted to gnd.
A6 113 ??????
B2 122 Cruise ctl no signal "don't worry about it"

We checked the courtesy light switches in every position and it didn't
vary the current draw.

There are three red wires on Dan's battery, I checked and the mystery current
is on the small red, back to the ignition switch in the wire loom, and not the big cable to the starter, or the piggy back red to who knows where?

The glovebox light showed about 120ma when the glovebox opened, so I'm guessing
the problem is some problem with a relay, but which one? something under the dash where it helps to be a dwarf mechanic! Dan will check out the brake pedal
stop switch & harness for problems later (He ran out of time today)

What's sucking down about 23ma that's not on the main fuseblock?

Any ideas out there? Help!

Bill

How to locate current draw 850

48ma isn't a lot and almost sounds normal. Is his alternator charging at 14.5V? A poor voltage regulator(brushes) will leave the battery at 12V and make it appear to be a drain.

Clear the A6 113, whatever that is.

And fix the brake switch, that short to ground is not good.

Hi Klaus, (I tried to answer you this AM but the auto reply feature gagged.)

      Thanks for weighing in.

My 850 draws about 18ma and it jumps around a bit, which must be normal, with the clock, alarm, CPU and whatever that's
always connected. His battery just came off a charger and was 12.6V after we were done. I didn't check the charging volts
yesterday. The 48ma draw doesn't seem too bad except this car is not his daily driver and if it sits around for maybe
2-3 weeks the battery is too weak to crank. 1.152Amps/day doesn't sound like it should croak a good battery eh?

I was wondering if the alternator could draw current with some failure there, and the only wire I could see easily must have been
the D+ wire, which I pulled with no change in the 48ma draw.

We'll go after the brake switch fault, I cleared the 142/141 codes. Gotta see if it resets those codes.

I can't find info about A6-113 code, and it won't clear, maybe the computer has a problem??

      I wish I had a Volvo Greenbook for 850 wiring/troubleshooting.

      Bill
