Spark Plugs V70-XC70

I have looked @ previous comments on what spark plugs are recommended, but would appreciate the latest thoughts:
one car is a 2004 V70 NA
the other is a 2003 v70XC turbo:

Volvo lists the same Champion plug for both (RC8PYP8)
Is a plug marked with VOLVO really a Champion ?? Stick with a Volvo/dealer supplied plug???
What about BOSCH?? and Platinum vs. copper ???
Thanks,
Art

I'm personally into NGK plugs. I like copper plugs in these engines for the reasons many have stipulated. They won't last long, but they're cheap.

I'm currently using the V-power BKR7E in my turbo.

An NA would get a V-power BKR6E. A step hotter.

No more 3 prong plug for the NA engines? Great!

I would stick with copper plugs, they tollerate heat better than platinum.

Champion works, but do not expect 60K miles. I would take them out at 20K, clean and inspect them for gap and put them back in.

Hello, "No more 3 prong plug for the NA engines, great"...? I was under the impression that the 3 prong 5 pack was the bedrock of the simplicity of my life. Have the NA people been into something better for long? I feel left out. I'll go get some of the copper plugs mentioned as soon as Hurricane Irene leaves. Kira

The 3 prong plugs from Volvo should last 50-60K miles, are yours falling apart? Remember, the engines are different in the 'newer' models.

Klaus, Not sure if your question is to Kira or my orginal question. I know the plugs in my 2004 V70 were changed at a Volvo dealer 65,000 miles ago. The car is running fine. I have not pulled a plug to see the Mfg. and design of the plugs used(yet).I am just geting ready to tune up the car this fall.
Thx. , Art

Volvo brand plugs seem to last a long, long time, but they cost a lot. Champions are cheap and last at least 12K miles.

I realize it is not easy to check plugs these days, the coil has to be removed. But if you got new plugs at a dealer, then they will be Volvo branded. Go ahead and pull one when it gets cooler outside. Then you can check the gap and condition. 65K miles is a long time for them to be in the engine.

When installing plugs, I always dab a small amount of anti sieze on the threads.

Klaus

Hello, My '99 and 2002 non-turbos both used the 3 pronger from Volvo changed at, or before, the recommended 60K interval. I never noticed any improvement afterward so I figured I was experiencing no degradation; which was a good thing. I also concluded that the 3 prong Volvo plug was economical magic. At what year did the non-turbo engine get a different plug? While I have no complaint, I'd try a different plug if it was "peppier"; even if it didn't last ~60K. Kira ps Hurricane Irene broke up and slowed down (plain English description) after hitting North Carolina. New York and New Jersey got a lot of rain but nothing we hadn't seen before. Big winners: The reservoirs and aquifers. Big losers: Tourists trapped in hotel rooms with no public transportation. K
