Nigth lights not working 850 1995

When I turn the headlights on, dash is illuminated just fine. However, console area is not. None of the lights on it appear to work. Is there a fuse that controls them?

I doubt there's a seperate fuse for those lights. You probably need to take the console off and check connections, plugs and grounds.

Not only are none of the bulbs in console working, I can also not move the shifter from Park to Drive. So the shifter microswitch and the solenoid are also not getting juice. I wonder what the common root cause is...
I removed the console. There are 2 big connectors in front, and 3 smaller ones for the cigarette lighter. I don't see any others. Fuses appear to be fine. Are there relays I need to check out, if yes, where are they located?

Check the gound wires under the ashtray area. Make sure there is no rust. Then check the wire bundle as it goes up the dash - I know, its a pain - and see if the sheathing is rubbed off where the bundle goes to the left, over a metal bracket.

I vaguely recall someone having a problem with a wire under the driver's side dash chaffing and then shorting, you might want to take a look under there. Are you sure all of the fuses are okay? There are relays under the fuse box, but that seems unlikely to be the culprit.
