v70 control arm - premature failure causes V70-XC70 2002

Grrrrrrrr.
Changed the control arms on my wife's v70 t5 about a year ago.
Recent handling showed signs of control arm failure. Sure enough - both are shot.
Q: What could cause just a years worth of life?
I torqued them on ramps with weight on suspension
They are-uh were OEM
Can they go in a year? If so any causes/experience?
Upper engine mount is blown - would that lead to premature failure.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Looks like I have to do this PITA job again.
BTW - do you really have to preload these control arms. The way the bushings/brackets are designed, I can't see a preload benefit - Not like on my BMW.

OEM should not fail. There are so many Volvos out there with OEM and 200K+ miles. If they are less than a year old, Volvo will exchange them.

Call Tasca Volvo for a new set. They should not require preloading for the proper torque value. Just put the entire suspension and wheel nut back on and then finish the torque process.

      Thanks Klaus,
The car has 125k. I'm thinking what I put on was not OEM.
Lesson learned. Need to replace top engine mount too.
Wondering if there are other torn pieces of rubber lurking.

Any 'typicals' that you think are worth checking replacing?

      Thanks in advance,

      James

I happen to like the top mount from IPD, it is poly and easy to replace. Others complain that too much engine vibration comes through the poly mount, but I never had a problem with it.

The forward engine mount tends to break, check and replace while doing control arms.

Tried to find DIY info on front engine mount for V70.
          Not much luck.
Is this as easy as the top mount swap?
          Any special advice?

Front engine mount requires a jack stand to hold the car up and a hydraulic jack to hold up the engine. Not difficult at all.

If the crankshaft pully looks like it is about to touch the subframe, then suspect the mount failed. Volvospeed has pics.
