Shift Indicator Bulb Replacement? 850 1997

I am the proud new owner of a used 1997 850 GLT Sedan. Car is in absolute immaculate condition.

It appears (read: I hope and pray this thing is as good as it looks...) that it has been well serviced and taken care of.

The shift indicator lights (P R N D 3 L) are not lighting up, they were the other day. I'm assuming that the bulb went, or a connection is loose.

HOW DO I PULL THE PANEL TO CHECK THE BULB???????

Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help. I haven't gotten a quality repair manual yet.

Thanks,

Barry

    Barry,

As John mentioned you pop up the centre console...two torx screws holding the ashtray, two more for coin tray and another found inside the centre arm rest. Inside the arm rest you should see a flap. Remove the flap and it will expose another screw. Also under the handbrake there is a plastic insert that also needs to be popped out. After all this is removed the centre console can be lifted up...take care when putting back that the carpet is tucked in all around. The bulb sits directly under the gear shifter at the base of a "funnel". This works for my '94, your '97 shouldn't be much different. Congratulations on your new purchase and welcome to the best Volvo web site on this planet!

You must remove the center console.
