S70 reliability and DIY repairs for a Brickhead S70 1998

The RMS going is almost always brought on by the oil being changed infrequently (thus getting sluge-y) and the PCV/PTC system clogging creating too much pressure. That dries out/blows out the seal leading to its failure. You should clean out/replace the system when you acquire the car. Then keep oil changes often enough that the oil isn't severely degraded when you change it.

That said, 240s had more than their fair share of RMS fails.
