850 remove/replace taillights 850

I want to remove the tail lights from a '97 850 and put them on a '95.

Can I do this - are the light clusters the same on 95's and 97's?

How do I remove the tail light?

Also have the same questions for the lights (not headlights) on the front, although this is less important (I can live with the fronts as they are).

Reason - hail broke tail lights on the 95. Need the good lights on the 95 for now.

Fwiw, I pulled the upper set of V70 wagon, the long turn signal portion, and they fit perfectly on my '95 855T. The V70 has clear TS lenses, the 855 has yellow. The TS light socket is different if I recall but it was easy to make the switch in the driveway.

My original parts were looking weather beaten and dull but the wrecked V70 parts spruced up the rear.

I am no expert so take this with a grain of salt but I think 95' 96 and 97 taillights are all the same. They are definitely different from 93 and some 94's with the square look and amber turn signals.

They are different. One is held in with screws, the other with bolts. Sorry, but I always get confused form 95 to 96+.

I can't remember if the 95 has the half-yellow half-clear light or the all-clear (so you use a yellow bulb). If its the all-clear (like the 96-97s) then yes, you can switch them without problems.

IIRC if its the otherway, you have to "break" the side ones to get it to mount up right (so the assembly is held in by top/bottom only). It'll hold it fine, but its a modification you have to do.

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

Hi from Boston,

I don't know if there's a difference in tail light assy's from year to year.
I'd just go to the boneyard and take out the assy and check it with your car before you pay. The inner trim pieces come out easily. Use a scewdriver on the clips, 1/2 turn releases. Then the light assy is maybe held in with some nuts.
You'll see when you get in there. You will also find some connectors to remove.
There's usually a latch to press while pulling or prying apart carefully with
a screwdriver.

Bill
