Check Engine light Code PO172 System to rich bank 1 (not too) S70 1998

Hi Folks,
Been away a while, I got a check engine light this pm The code was PO172 and the msg was System to rich bank 1.

I'll have to do a little reading in the manual tonight.

In the mean time I'd appreciate any thoughts or clues,

On another front I called my Dashboard and speedometer expert who also works on Radios and asked him if he would work on my 1997 volvo Stereo changer. it skips a lot even when I'm moving "Sure, he says, send it on up!" They fixed my speedometer on my 740T. Work on all kinds of stuff!

Regards

Woody

CD players usually skip more often if the laser pickup has lost strength as it ages. It can't track the grooves as easily.

Can't help you with the engine.

Bank 1 and 2 refer to a V6/V8 engine, ours are inline so only bank 1.

Time to start replacing vacuum lines around the intake manifold and turbo. Replace them all with new tubing.

      Hi KlausC,

Dumb question for one and all. Is the tubing strictly a Vovo Part, or is it the type of thing I can get an my local Napa store? Or FCPGroton?

Today I'm going to pull my skipping CD changer. If you have one that skips even when you are rock still there is a cure or two for that. A shop in Richmond VA can fix you up. I sent them my 740T dashboard when the spedometer went nutso. They rebuilt the Speedometer and I was back in business. Timely workers too.I felt like I got it back beforeI sent it, it was so fast!SOUTHERN ELECTRONICS Inc is the name of the company. If you need their telephone number let me know.

      Have a good day,

      Woody

Vacuum lines are in metric sizes, can be bought almost anywhere, but the worst offenders are the 90 degree elbows (connectors). I bought some silicone tubing from http://www.stylinmotors.com/volvo.html

        I liked the colors!

Elbows for the small vacuum lines can be bought at IPD & FCP. I ordered some, but they really come in different sizes and angles, something that I was unaware of when I ordered when a "kit".

Check the infamous elbow behind the PS pump and close to the #1 intake manifold runner. Hard to see and prone to crack. It is normally replaced with the replacement of the oil separator because the intake manifold comes off at that time.

It is most likely a vacuum leak. Check all your lines, elbows and listen for some hissing. After that you've got O2 sensors, MAF, fuel pressure regulator, and a few other things that could be causing it. However those things aren't as common as a broken vacuum line.

Well As it usually works out things are not always as they seem. After looking the Vacum hoses over I took the Car to my local " They cleaned the Indi" MAF sensor. Drove it about 6 miles with a full scanner (mine only reads codes and shuts them off, with the exception of the "Service " light. Drove it again , no light no pending codes.

However if it comes back VolVo says it could be a SB that has you replace 2 O2 Sensors and harness next. For what it's worth!

      Regards to all,

Hope nobody suffered any loss or damage from all these tornados!
