shifter button sticky V70-XC70 1998

The button that is depressed to move the shifter to park and allow you to remove the key is "sticky" Every once and a while I have to leave the key in as the button will not fully spring back. What is involved in fixing this problem? Thanks in advance for all the help.

A shot of WD40 helps a lot of folks. Otherwise, the shifter comes out by pulling straight up. Volvospeed has a short write up on this.

Thanks for the link. I've ordered the button. I have inspected the button and see where it is broken. If I wiggle it up somewhat it springs back better but it is clearly broken.

Agreed, but I've used spray silicon on the sticky '01 S40 button. It usually needs a shot every 3-4 months or so. Granted this button is cracked and really should be replaced, but the silicon is working for now.

IPD sells a kit to repair the button if it's broken.

I don't like using fish oil either :>) but most people have a can of WD40 on the shelf. The best solution is to pull the shifter out and GREASE the slide mechanism.
