Rear Shaft S70 1999

As far as I know the bearing and the carrier are replaceable separate from the shafts. The trouble is finding the parts.

There is a u-joint in between both shafts. The u-joint and the yoke for the front section of the driveshaft must both be removed. In order to maintain balance you must maintain the alignment of the two shaft sections which means marking the shafts and yokes so they are assembled properly.

The bearing is not hard to find and can be ordered pretty much anywhere though I forget the dimensions and number. I think the inner dimension is 30mm? The bearing number could very well be stamped on the side of the bearing you have now which would make it easier to order a new one.

The carrier itself though (the metal hoop with the rubber bushing inside) is much harder to find.

If you dig up a part number or place to order either of these items please post them back here for others.

A machine shop or driveshaft repair place should be able to put something together for you if you're not handy with this stuff. It will be much cheaper than a new shaft.

DIY-ing would be even cheaper.

I have mine (1998) kind of jimmied up with the bearing carrier from a 740 and a new bearing that I ordered based on the measurements I made of the shaft and the exterior dimension of the 740 bearing.
(in case anyone is ever looking to make this modification as I did, the carrier bearing I used was a SKF 6206-2RS1 (30mm inner diameter, 62mm outer diameter): http://www.sabb.skf.com/skf/productcatalogue/Forwarder?action=PPP&lang=en&imperial=false&windowName=null&perfid=105027&prodid=1050270206
With this bearing you can just use a new 740 carrier assembly from FCP. (on a 1998 shaft anyway). The bearing that fits on a 740 is too big (for the 1998 AWD prop shaft) on the inner dimension at I think 35mm?.
The carrier is a bit bigger than the real V70 AWD carrier assembly but if you shim the mounting plate down with a couple of washers it works fine.)
