2001 V70 T-5 Geartronic w95K V70-XC70

I am thinking about purchasing a 2001 V70 T 5 with a Geartronic- with 93K miles
I am getting it inspected at Howard Orloff Jaguar/Volvo
before I purchase it. I have read that there are many problems with this tranny?/
Yes ? No?
Thanks
Jeff

    Goooday Jeff!

    Here is my two cents..

    I reluctantly purchased a 2001 T5 Geartronic about 6 months ago
with 123,000 as my missus realy liked it. My concerns were the
    transmission and the ETM.

The ETM had a yellow tag.. I gather this means it has the latest Firmware.
This I believe has a 100,000 / 10 year warranty. ( Due to lot of complaints)

After buying it (as is) from the volvo dealer I noticed the transmission
would shift with a worrisome jerk now and than. Did a transmission flush
using Mobile 3309 used 14 qts. Slight improvement.

The oil cap had sludge caked on it. Did a couple of oil changes
and used Auto Rx fluid. It is a pain to change oil as one has to remove
the splash guard cover underneath the car, about 7 bolts. (I notice a small
oil drip near the turbo area underneath.)

A small loss of antifreez on the hose under the resvoir... replaced oem
hose, still a slight loss continued... fixed by wrapping plumbers
tape round the nozzele and insulating tape round the hose and than tightening
the clamp.. so far so good. (I found it tough separating the PowerStearing
resvoir from the antifreez resvoir... the plastic hookups had hardened.)

    I have two other volvos.. a V70 98 and a saloon s70 98.

The 2001 is solid and lot smoother and comfortable... So far have driven it
over 10,000 miles and no issues... OverDue for a timing belt change.
(Recommended 100000 miles) Dont care for the Geartronic... to nervious
to use it. but it works.) I still prefer a regular stick.

There was always a hum inside the car even after turning off the ignition
switch... Blew some compressed where I think the cab temp. sensor lives
    and that cured this..

I Paid $5000 for it.... I would feel happier if I had paid $4000. I am
not much of a wheeler dealer.

Hope this helps.. My missus realy likes it...

    Greg

Let off the brake quickly and step on the gas hard from a complete stop.

If you feel a clunk before the car starts moving, run away from this car and don't look back. The stop-neutral feature has not been de-activated, and the transmission will in all liklihood die soon. Find a 2003 or newer V70 if you can.

Most of the problems are due to not flushing the tranny fluid. The electronics on the 2001 are third class.

I'm sure you are aware that 2001 was the first year for the 2nd version of the V70. Beware of a first year of production of any car. I am often surprised how many messages come in to this board from owners of first year cars (1998 for the first V70, 2001 for the second). It would be an interesting statistical analysis. Maybe Brickboard readers are really tough and take on any challenge.

Hello, Go to Truedelta.com and see what Mike Karesch (sp?) has done to amass usable data on cars. In the few months I've belonged I've seen the volume increase in both sample size(# of people) and coverage (car model and year). Give it a look. Kira
