noob question "snorkel' hose S70 2000

Hey guys, I was driving the other day and in order to get around a semi that was coming into my lane, I jammed the pedal all the way to the floor. Long story short, it wouldn't shift/sounded like it was starving for air. Opened the hood and the large plastic hose going from the radiator/fan area to the air cleaner had totally collapsed and had come off. I popped it out and reattached and everything was fine. 1. Is this a common failure? and 2. Do I need to replace this part now? Mind you there is no discernible damage such as cracks, etc.; just some crease marks. Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot Klaus! Yeah I had just purchased a new filter a day or two before the incident, but I will replace the hose posthaste. Thanks again. Good day.

It is NOT a common failure. Someone must have stepped on it while the radiator was being replaced. You will need a new one, but they are relatively cheap. Once bent, they will become weak and collapse again.

When you install it, shove the front into the opening at the top of the radiator first, then put the rear into the air cleaner box.

Buy a new air filter while you are at it, take the box out of the car and clean it out with soap and water. Nice little task :>)

Is that the way you're supposed to put the 850's hose in too? I've always done it the other way (first air box then radiator).. Perhaps I've been wrong for soo long..

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

The play in the hose is front to back, not sideways. There is ample room to get the hose off the box, but no room to move the hose backward without bending the connection at the box.

Same for the 850.
