Power steering pump noise V70-XC70 1998

It's starting to get cool in the mornings in Indiana, and I get a groaning noise when I start the XC. It goes away in about a minute. Had the serp. belt replaced with no improvement. Fresh fluid in P/S pump also (which may have made the problem worse....). Should I put synthetic in the P/S pump? What kind? Or, is it another problem altogether (and not the pump)?

Thanks!

In my case, it was the automatic tranny that made noise until it shifted to 2nd.

Use synthetic PS fluid in the system, much better than tranny fluid.

Synthetic P/S fluid? The auto parts stores here do not offer this. Any brand or source recommendations?

Thanks!

AMSOIL makes it, but what is required is a really good hydraulic oil that is not going to attract water vapor. Mobil 1 ATF will work.

Fully synthetic ATF would be my second choice and that should be available everywhere.

I do find it hard to imagine you can't get synthetic PS fluid somewhere locally though...

Autozone does not offer synthetic P/S fluid, so I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

Thanks!
