XC70 Headlight Assembly Removal V70-XC70 2005

I need to replace the yellow side marker bulb inside the front driver's side headlight assembly. It looks like the complete headlight assembly has to be removed to change this bulb. How is the headlight assembly removed? Thanks.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately it does not address changing the side marker bulb. This is not addressed in my owner's manual either. On my 2005 XC70 there appears to be absolutely no access to this bulb other than removal of the headlight assembly itself. Hence the request on how to remove the headlight assembly which appears to be much trickier than on early S70s which simply had three 10mm bolts holding it in.

I am confused. The side marker bulb and the parking light bulb are not the same thing? You pull the plastic cover off the backside of the headlamp assembly and remove the bulb & holder.

Even the S70 did not require headlamp removal to change the parking light bulb. Just push down on the tab and pull the parking light forward.

          Yep, they're different.

At the outermost part of the headlamp assembly there is a connection for another bulb. You push and twist and get the connector/holder off. Then you replace bulb, and put it back in.

Here's a link to the guide on replacing all the bulbs:

Klaus, there's turn signal lamps, parking lamps, a dipped beam, main beam, and sidemarker lamps.

Here are the instructions from the PDF:

Removing the bulb for side marker lamps/turn
            signal lamps
            Side marker lamps
Note! Applies to the right-hand side only.
            Remove the fuel filler pipe.
            Remove:
the bulb holder by pressing and twisting it
            the bulb.

BUT, WHY does it say to remove the fuel filler pipe?????????? There P2 cars are really different than my 1998.

I think it's time to work on my 220! 4 fuses.

Thank you guys for your inputs. The pdf file was quite useful. On the passenger side I think the instructions should have been to remove the windshield washer pipe (and tank), not the fuel pipe. On the driver's side I now think that if I remove the entire air filter assembly and the signal indicator bulb/socket, I may be able to get my fingers through a small hole in the metal side panel to access the end of the tube that holds the side marker bulb !!! I will try a LED replacement but this may not take enough current to turn off the bulb-burnt-out detector. Will try it once the rain stops.
