diSC message on the onboard computer display V70-XC70

I was at a Volvo club DIY today and no one there could answer this question:

My 1998 V70 XC AWD sometimes shows a diSC message on the onboard computer display which switching from mpg to temperature. Not consistent; stopped after a few times. last week it was showing briefly when I started the engine.

One of the mechanics was certain it was referenced in the owner's manual but it isn't in mine. I searched on internet on only found that someone else had the same question:

Frans Bedford-Visser (80.192.62.74) - Wed May 20 02:22:02 2009

I have recently noticed a message on the Onboard Computer Display which says "dISC". This appears shortly after starting the engine (but not always) and disappears when driving. Can anyone throw any light on this for me?

My 1998 is always on the temperature setting. It reads "diSC" about a quarter of the time.

The cause is the pins on the temperature sensor are corroded. It sits up under the bumper. I cleaned them once, but the problem has returned and I have had too many things to do other than fix it. The computer reads "diSC" because an open circuit is an out of range condition.

Not to worry too much, unless it is always disc. The computer is waiting on a response from the sensors or the ECM to get data. DISC is either disconnected or discovery, I forgot which, and is usually displayed immediately after switching to something which requires data from more than one source.

Remember, most of the data is an average and expecting instant averages can take a while if the ECM is busy trying to run the engine.
