Wont start, have fuel and spark V70-XC70 2000

Hi all,

Car will no longer start, i have spark at each coil, i have fuel coming to the rail, and i have fuel spraying out of each injector (i pulled them all out and cranked)
car will not start..or will sometimes start but sound/feel like its running on just 2 or 3 cylinders, and when i pull out the spark plugs they are all super wet and there is a pool of gas on each piston top..and takes A long time to evaporate it out..so its running super super rich..
what causes this?
i know about the ECT and its bad i think..as there is NO resistance between its terminals 0 Ohms, but could that be the only reason? why wouldnt the car go into some sort of limp home mode?
gona order a new sensor and see..just looking for other's experiences!

thanks and all the best

A bad ECT will cause the engine to run super rich. If the engine warms up and the ECT is still reading zero, the engine will flood. Flooding the cylinders will wash the rings of oil and that means you have no compression.

This is also a cause for lawn mower syndrome, and the cure for that is to crank for more than 30 seconds with the gas pedal on the floor. Full gas during starter crank tells the ECU to NOT inject fuel. Once the oil pressure light goes out, oil will begin spraying onto the rings and compression will slowly come back.

Or, add a table spoon of oil to each cylinder and then start the car.

You will need to change the oil because there will be a lot of gasoline mixed in with it.

      Hi Klaus, and thank you
Yes im familiar with this issue..but the issue im having is that the cylinder are flooding withing Seconds of cranking and no start..it just floods right away and never gets a chance to "warm up".
      Still ect?
So the issue is im having a boat load of fuel being dumped into the cylinders..i've checked fuel pressure and its good!
so im assuming the pulse is too long as the pressure seems ok!

The injector pulses will be longer if the ECT thinks the engine is very cold.

Is the ECT failure the only code you have? The ETM could also be at fault.

Holding the gas pedal to the floor when cranking the engine will turn off gas flow.

the only obd codes i have are for missfires on all cylinders..no other..the ect failure was me reading the resistance from it! which was an open No ohms,
the ETM..the light is NOT on for it..how else can i check its functionality?

If the ECT had totally failed, the Ohms reading would be 32,000+. The normal reading on a cold engine is around 2800Ohms to 200Ohms for a hot engine. If the ECT fails to communicate to the ECU, then a P0nnn is set.

All you have is multiple misfires, and you need to crank the heck out of it to get rid of the gasoline that has washed your rings. While the ETM might be a problem, it usually sets its own error codes, you could have a loose or disconnected vacuum line or a loose air hose at the throttle body.

Any unmetered air entering the intake manifold will cause a rich condition due to the O2 sensors noticing a lean condition. The O2 sensors tell the ECU to increase the injector times.
