right rear brake locked up V70-XC70 2004

Mary's was just leaving our daughter's house and the left rear brake locked up solid (very solid). There is a tiny amount of brake dust on the wheel and she says that she thought that she felt 'something'yesterday. It drove and stopped fine on Saturday night and Sunday.

The car is getting towed home right now. Any ideas beyond a stuck caliper ?

Thanks

Greg

solved: right rear brake locked up V70-XC70 2004

    Klaus,

It was the parking brake. One of the pads had come off the shoe and jammed the rotor/drum. The rear pads were replaced this spring and I just looked at them on Sunday when I rotated the tires.

Are you still living with the RMS oil leak ? I've been pretty busy and have not been keeping up on my Brickboarding. We are getting a little shower right now so I was checking the email.

    Hope all is well

    Greg

Not unless Mary used the Ebrake for the first time in years and the parking brake is still jammed. I would suspect the pads got a little thin and might have allowed the piston to push all of the way out and now it is stuck.

BTW, the 220 crank was 180 degrees off. Fixed it and took the little wagon up to 80mph and smooth...

And I bought my 1998 V70R back yesterday, LOL

      Klaus,

I just read the last line of your message. V70R ? Kiss your license goodbye.

        ebrake failure V70-XC70 2004

Glad to hear about a failed shoe and not a caliper. Easy fix.

This "R" was previously owned by a Brickboarder - ME. I sold it 2 years ago because I just had too many cars. I still have too many cars!!!! But I loved the car, so it is staying around a while.

It also needs new shoes and the cables are rusty, and cables are a job.

The RMS still leaks, but I am going to take the other's advice and wait for the clutch to go out. I put in new window seals/tracks and most of the rattles are now gone. The 120 is a pleasure to drive, but the "R" has more zoooom.
