What tells a F/AWD car it's driver's door is closed? V70-XC70 1998

Kind of a silly two part question here. Part one is like the title says: What tells a F/AWD car it's driver's door is closed? Part two: Is there an easy way to disable the door chime without screwing up things like the interior lights?

I ask because I have a relatively new to me '98 XC 70 that is having a hard time believing you've shut the door after you've gotten in the car and put the key in the ignition. It seems to be getting worse (wife reports re-opening and re-closing the door three times this morning before it stopped chiming). I don't see anything obvious on the door frame like the little push contact pins the 240s have. ...And when the car finally admits that the door is closed there is what sounds like a solenoid (or maybe a relay?) actuating within the door itself.

Do I really have to take the door apart to fix this thing? How in the world does this system work?

Thanks for any insight!

Look closely at the latch on the door. There should be a small black lever above the striker which you can push outwards to tell the car that the door is closed. To release this switch, pull on the door handle.

You can loosen the latch on the door and move it towards the car body about 1mm and retighten.

Thanks so much Klaus! Very very helpful. Very very glad to not have to take the door apart!

I must have totally overlooked it while scrutinizing the door frame. Coming from RWD Volvos (the '98 is my first F/AWD), I keep making the assumption that they designed things to be as complicated as possible.....

      Thanks again!

If you are in need of a user's manual and do not have one in the glove box:

        http://www.volvocars.com/us/top/community/pages/yourvolvo.aspx

Near the bottom of the page, enter year model, etc.
